“Read More” AND “Continue reading” on grid pages?

    I love the grid pages, but I have an issue that I cannot figure out how to fix!
    At the bottom of each of the excerpts, we have links for Both:

    Continue reading
    Read more

    It doesn’t look great.

    They both seem to be a.more-link in the CSS, and are in the entry-summary class div where they should be.

    The grid page is also not using our page excerpts, but that might just be an issue with not recognizing Yoast plugin excerpts vs. WP.
    I tried de-activating all the plugins except Jetpack, and that didn’t fix the issue, so not sure what’s happening. I’ve found a manual work around with widgets, but would rather get the theme working!

    Also, yes, this is a website about artificially inseminating honey bees, and it’s pretty delicate work ??

    I’m taking a look at this now. Bee back soon (get it? haha).

    So, I haven’t been able to replicate the read more and continue reading duplications on my test site. Even when I manually add the continue reading in to the post, I still only see the Read More option displayed. This was true whether or not using the post excerpts. The Read More option is what should be displayed as part of the theme.

    This makes me think that you may have another plugin that could be running some interference. The Jetpack debugging tool came back clear as well.

    I also tried to hide one or the other using CSS but when adding display: none; both options are removed…

    I’ll keep working on this and am also going to ask a colleague to have another look at the site with me to make sure I haven’t missed something.

    The plugins we have activated right now are:

    • SiteGround Optimizer (caching)
    • Organic Customizer Widgets
    • Askimet
    • VaultPress
    • Jetpack
    • Yoast

    We aren’t using any of the Organic Widgets on the pages where we are having this issue.
    De-activating Yoast doesn’t help with the grid excerpts; it still just grabs the first paragraph. And has both read more/continue reading.

    We briefly tried the plugin TablePress, but it doesn’t seem to work well with this theme. The formatting goes wonky ?? We de-activated it.

    I solved it!!

    It was indeed a conflict with Yoast SEO Plugin.

    If I went back into the page, and added an Excerpt in *addition* to the Yoast metadata, now it uses the excerpt as the blurb and only has “read more”.

    Whew!
