read more function ?

hello,
i am very new in wordpress so i am sorry when its a stupid question but i search for it now some hours.

i wanna use a read more function that automaticly cut my postings after X words. maybe 200 or 100 i don’t know. i know there is a function that the writer can do it but is there any way to do it automaticly ? maybe a plugin ?
