Read more link for Grid Page child pages

Adding a custom excerpt for each page should allow you to get very consistent excerpt lengths, although the automatic trim should really be at a fixed number of words. Do you have a link to your site I could look at?

If you add a custom excerpt, that’ll remove the […] – users would only need to click on the page title to reach the full page, as you can see on the demo – would that work?

Thanks for the advice. As there’s no excerpt option in the theme is that something I can install as a custom field?

I’d happily edit the right PHP to fix the random number of words or set a fixed character limit if I knew where to look for it.

Motif does support custom excerpts, so if you’re not seeing the option, open your Screen Options panel in the page editor and make sure you’ve checked off the Excerpt option:

The default excerpt length is the first 55 words of a post – it’s not random. ?? If your post is shorter than 55 words, then of course your excerpt will be, too.

If you prefer to continue to use automatic excerpts instead of custom ones, you may add a filter to a child theme’s functions.php file, following the example here:

2) How can I get a read more link into the grid? There’s a lovely little [..] icon at the end of each grid box text but it’s not clickable, editable or in any way useful. I assumed it would do it automatically.
