Read More problem in a single post

  • Hi,
    I’m fairly new to WordPress and I am having a Read More problem with a single post. I have searched everywhere online and within WordPress, but I can’t find a solution to my problem.
    I realise that you offer a free service and that this may be too much to ask, but your advice would be really appreciated.
    The website is ‘themichaelfiles.com’ theme Astra and the post that has the problem is in the ‘I Ching’ category, named ‘Where to buy my book’.
    If I insert a ‘Read More’ tag in the post, I get the excerpt I want, but no ‘Read More’ button.
    If I don’t insert the tag, I get the ‘Read More’ button, but the excerpt contains a lot of code.
    Hoping you can help.

  • The theme determines whether the full post or the excerpt is shown on a list page.
    Sometimes the theme gives the user a choice of which to show.

    If the full content is shown, the More tag is the boundary (content is shown up to the More tag) and a Read More link to the single page is shown (theme could filter this out).

    If the excerpt is shown, any manual excerpt written by the author is shown (can contain HTML) or if none is written, an excerpt is generating by stripping the HTML tags from the content and taking the first X words (defaults to 55, but themes can change it). A link to the single page may or may not be shown, but the post title or date is usually linked.

    Given all that, you could have a plugin affecting things also.
