• I can’t get the <!–more–> tag to work.
I’m using the twenty eleven theme, and have disabled all plugins.
I create a post and put the <!–more–> tag in using the button on the editor. The editor shows the nice little ‘more’ graphic where I put it, and the html editor shows “<!–more–>” as expected.
When I go to the blog’s home page, the entire post is shown.

The site is the ‘primary’ site on a multisite setup, running on localhost (using WAMP). Everything else, including many plugins have worked fine (all plugins disabled now though)

    Help!

  • Have you investigated if this occurs on a live site?

No I haven’t, but it sounds like a good idea. Shouldn’t take long…

Sure enough, it seems to work on the live site.
I’d be interested in any theories as to why WordPress should work differently on localhost.
Are there any more gotchas waiting to make my life miserable??

It is likely because you do not have the required modules installed locally or your browser is set to not run certain local content.

Another wasted day and time to just work around it.

I could find nothing in the configuration of my local PHP that would help.

It fails only when ALL the following are true:
    1) a specific theme is used (The Erudite) AND
    2) its on multiuser not an individual site AND
    3) The MU is running on localhost

If all three are true, it fails in multiple ways (more tag fails, excerpts are printed twice and not truncated, tinyMCE visual display is inconsistant, dropcaps missing from post)

Thats a specific enough case that it could easily be a bug in WP itself and/or bad behavior in WAMP or the theme or …

    Way beyond my skills!
