Hi, I was looking to customize the “Read more” link sent through email. Currently, the Hebrew text reads “??? ??? ?????? ???”, which I guess is translated from “Read more of this post”. The current text isn’t gender-neutral, as we would really like it to be.
Since I could find neither in the source code, I assume this link created on WordPress.com’s end. Is there any way to customize it?

Edit: I have a follow-up question to this – our blog writer currently uses the excerpt as a subtitle, as can be seen in this screenshot: https://geekpic.net/pm-9NZQZI.html
(Or on our Hebrew blog: https://blog.kolzchut.org.il/?p=2926)

This shows in the RSS feed (as a description), but doesn’t show in the email subscriptions. How can I add it there?

Hi there! I’m going to answer your questions one by one as follows ??

I was looking to customize the “Read more” link sent through email. Currently, the Hebrew text reads “??? ??? ?????? ???”, which I guess is translated from “Read more of this post”. The current text isn’t gender-neutral, as we would really like it to be.

There is not a direct way to customise it, but you can definitely report this to the Community Polyglots team who can surely address this.

You can login to the translation platform and suggest a different translation. A validator will then check and approve them for you: https://he.www.ads-software.com/

As soon as they’re approved, your suggestions will benefit you and every other user who speaks your language! One small addition can impact an entire community ??

I’m afraid that the only text customisation you can apply in the new post’s email notification is the one reported in the Can I customize the content of the subscription emails? at this page: https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/

Hope that helps! Let me know how you get on and if you have any other questions, or need some more help.

    Thanks for your answers!

Regarding the polyglot platform, I couldn’t find a way to search it; Is there?
I also assumed this won’t be under www.ads-software.com, as it’s part of a wordpress.com feature. Am I wrong?

Regarding the text customization, I’m a wordpress newbie, but currently the theme just outputs the excrept to the page; I figured there must be a hook/filter to just add the prepend the excrept to the content itself, maybe in “the_post” or “the_content” hook. Is that a definite no?

    Thanks again!

That’s right. I believe this may be what you’re looking for:

    https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/he/default/?filters%5Bterm%5D=read+more+of+this+post&filters%5Bterm_scope%5D=scope_any&filters%5Bstatus%5D=current_or_waiting_or_fuzzy_or_untranslated&filters%5Buser_login%5D=&filters%5Bview%5D=&filter=Filter&sort%5Bby%5D=priority&sort%5Bhow%5D=desc

(You can search using the Filter options).

I’m not sure if that’s possible. I’d suggest asking about that on the general WordPress forums:

    Hello,

Regarding the polyglot platform, I couldn’t find a way to search it; Is there?
I also assumed this won’t be under www.ads-software.com, as it’s part of a wordpress.com feature. Am I wrong?

We’ve checked again and your reasoning is correct here. You’re correct that your Hebrew translation is from Read more of this post as you can check here https://translate.wordpress.com/projects/wpcom/he/default/?filters%5Bstatus%5D=either&filters%5Boriginal_id%5D=8011&filters%5Btranslation_id%5D=4249194

However, it’s a pity that this string is on WordPress.com servers so that there is no specific way to customize it.

Actually, Stef answered this above but I’d like to iterate it a bit. Since the action of sending new post emails on our WordPress.com servers, your hooks/filters do not apply to these emails. In other words, there is no specific way to customize this too.

We hope that clarifies your concerns. Please let us know in case you need any further help!

Thank you so much for finding this for me! I made a suggestion there.

I had no idea when Jetpack fires its subscription mail, so I thought maybe I could catch it on publishing or something. I understand this won’t be possible, and will try to find another way.

    Again, thank you very much!
