On some of my pages I’m getting a very low score for Readability. What and where is Yoast seeing a problem with Readability? On the website page itself or in the Yoast SEO Title or the Yoast Meta Description?

  • The readability score is calculated by your pages / posts content that you have written in the editor.

I have 6 pages that are showing a red dot and 4 orange dots and 1 green dot. Adding H tags won’t be easy and will screw up the layout of the content on those low score pages. I’m not sure how rewrite the content to push up the score to a green dot.

I am getting low scores only.. and it seems to me that the plug in is not recognizing / detecting my text. As it always sais: 0 words or 0% of sentences etc.

Especially for the posts / blogs it strikes me as odd, because I make these directly into WordPress. I checked all the settings and can’t find the problem.

You might want to refer to this article on how to use the Readability Analysis — https://yoast.com/yoast-seo-readability-analysis/

It can also be tempting to want to get all green bullets using the content analysis of Yoast SEO, but please remember that these are all just suggestions. The most important part is you are optimizing your content and making sure it is the best experience for your users — https://yoast.com/want-green-bullet-wp-seo/

I understand what you’re saying completely. But I’m pretty sure the plugin does not recognize my text. Since it warns me for using 0 words..
I did all the checks, and I am writing the posts directly into WordPress editor.

Yoast SEO content analysis may not be able to show 100% correct results when adding the content using any page builder plugin. So, please make sure that you’re using the WordPress content editor to get the correct analysis report.

I do use the WordPress content editor, when writing posts.
But still, the plug in notifies me that I have used no text, 0 words etc.

    Hi @karenvisser200,

Please send us 2 screenshots that show:

    1. The content area/box where you are writing your text
    2. The Yoast SEO Premium meta box, with the Readability tab open

This will help us better understand what might be causing the issue and provide you with a solution.

We are looking forward to your reply.

    Hi @karenvisser200 and @scottkr24,

I’m sorry for the mix-up, I meant Yoast SEO meta box. The Readability tab is part of the free plugin too.

Please upload the images to an image sharing site such as Imgur and send us the links.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

    great, thanks,

Hope you can shed some light on this.
Website is build in Kallyas theme, but again, I write the posts directly into the editor. The readability scores of my other pages is working correctly.

@karenvisser200 Can you please confirm whether the issue persists after removing the <!--more--> page break from your content and shows the correct character count in Yoast SEO?

If the issue persists, can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:
    1. Check for conflicts.
    2. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.
If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.
