• Hi,

    My blog, https://www.alisonstarnes.com/blog , is not allowing people to leave comments on the threads. If you click the link to leave a comment, no page opens up. I tried to switch themes in case it was an error in the coding of the theme, but I am still unable to have comments left. If this helps, I have been getting a TON of Spam comments that I have had to delete (since I choose to moderate comments before they are posted)… I haven’t changed any of my “discussions” setting..

    Help!

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    Alison

  • It isn’t just comments that aren’t working. I couldn’t navigate to any of your individual posts either. Do you have some sort of URL redirection going on?

    I’m getting the following from my Firefox browser:

    The page isn’t redirecting properly
    Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

    I don’t have any URL redirection that I know of… Any suggestions on fixing this?

    @alisonstarnes,

    This issue is happening when clicking on any of your posts.

    You have what is called an infinite redirect loop. The URL cannot properly resolve itself. This is either caused by an incorrect redirection happening within the php code (eg: plugin) or you have something funny happening in your .htaccess file.

    I’m curious – if you disable all plugins and revert back to the default theme is this still happening?

    I just reverted to the default theme, but it still is doing that… What could be happening to my .htaccess file and can I fix it?

    This is what Firefox said even on the default theme…

    @alisonstarnes,

    And what happens with default theme and all plugins deactivated?

    All Plug-ins are deactivated now… do you mean widgets as well?

    A

    No, just plugins.

    Do you still get the same error?

    Yup ??

    Boo.

    OK…

    I have one more idea:

    We need to find your .htaccess file now. (Leave default theme and plugins deactivated for now).

    Do you have access to your cPanel?

    If yes… you need to open up file manager and find .htaccess in the /public_html/blog folder.

    Can you see such a file?

    Uh oh,

    I can’t seem to find it?

    Are you in the file manager?

    If yes… are you able to view hidden files? (.htaccess if a hidden file).

    I am in the file manager, and I should be able to view hidden files.

    I don’t have a public htm folder in /blog

    @alisonstarnes,

    you should have a /blog folder under /public_html.

    Can you see it?

    @rschilt

    I don’t see it…

    Any suggestions? Sorry…

    @alisonstarnes,

    If you installed WP in https://www.alisonstarnes.com/blog then there has to be a directory called /public_html/blog.

    If you are not able to see it (for whenever reason) then I don’t think I’m going to be of much help from this end.

    Do you know of someone or have a friend that is web/wp savvy that is perhaps able to take a closer look for you?

    R
