Reading current media into gallery

Hi, I have many pictures that are already established in a hierarchy format is yy/mm/dd. How do I get the media libray to see these pictures for use in the blog. My reason for this is old dates have been established with media but wordpress will want to use the current dates to the libray, and this is not acceptable. Any ideas?
