• I have installed and re-installed WordPress two or three times. Always the result of going to the admin is the same. Following instructions, if have created a simple home page containing nothing but text. Then in “Settings/Reading setting” set Static Page and set Front Page to home. Then selected “Visit Site” at the top of the Dashboard. The result is simply a presentation of all of the files and directories in the wordpress folder installed in Apache/htdocs/wrdprs.

My environment is on my local machine, Windows 7. Using MySQL 5.7. PHP 7.

Are you using WAMP, XAMPP, or native Windows hosting?

I *strongly* suggest using Local By Flyweel when doing localhost stuff; after one large download, setting up a WordPress site is literally just a click or two.

    Hi Steve,
Sorry, I put this here before I realized I should have placed it in the FixWordPress forum.

To answer your question, what I’ve done with my local install is really quite simple. I don’t see the point of put a simple installation and configuration into yet another platform, which means I’d have platforms on platforms on platforms.

I am not entirely ignorant about PHP and MySQL under Apache. Years ago I hand coded a simple content manager and front end web site for a local non-profit. Instead of having to do that again, I thought I’d use WordPress.

    Cheers,
    Pat

So, what is the answer to my question? I think you’re telling me you’re installing directly on Windows. See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Installing_on_Microsoft_IIS, because it really works better on Linux. You have to tweak some Windows related things.
