Really Complicated and Expensive Headache

  • I installed the plugin. I sure do regret it now. It caused an error 500 across my entire website. I had to try all kinds of things to get it to uninstall because I couldn’t get at the Dashboard. The force-deactivate.php file took numerous tries to work. (Yes, I followed the instructions about http and not https). That’s 2-1/2 hours of my life I will never get back. So much for “free” software. I see a lot of people like this software. Consult your hosting company and make sure you look carefully at the deinstallation instructions before trying this because it isn’t as easy to get rid of as it sounds.

    Hi,

    sorry to hear you were experiencing issues when activating SSL. The plugin will work out of the box in the vast majority of cases, however some configurations can results in issues when activating SSL, for example when the server is low on memory. The 500 error is a generic server error and can be debugged by enabling debugging in WordPress as described here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Debugging_in_WordPress. That will provide more information about the exact cause of the error if it’s WordPress/PHP related. The force-deactivate.php script should work right away.
