I really think there’s something wrong. On Mailchimp website, I learn that one of my options for making it work on my www.ads-software.com website is installing the plugin “Connect or Disconnect List Subscribe for WordPress”, which turns out to be named “MailChimp List Subscribe Form”, which turns out to display on my installed plugins as “MailChimp”. Considering the amount of mailchimp plugins out there, I think it’s not a very clever practice.
Then, it’s really hard to make it work at my language. It’s believed to have many translations, including the one I need to use, but i could not make it work.
Then, there’s no redirecting! The success message displays between the title and the fields. I mean, you should know it’s just not usable this way.
That’s it. Now all is left is to try the embedded form.

  • Hi @dubeux,

Thanks for reaching out. I completely understand the confusion regarding the plugin title – it would make more sense if the plugin had a consistent name everywhere it is mentioned, and I went ahead and passed that feedback along internally.

That being said, when you mention that it’s difficult to make the plugin work in your language – we’d like to take a look and see whats causing that issue. Could you please reply back with the following details:

    – What steps did you take when trying to translate the plugin and what did happen after you attempted to translate the form? Were the edits not retained, etc?
    – A link to your site with the plugin installed
    – Theme running on your page
    – All other active plugins

Thanks! Additionally, when you mention that the success message loads on the same page, that is expected if javascript is enabled. However, it sounds like it may not be loading in an ideal way on your end – it should display at the top of the plugin, not in between multiple list fields. Seeing the plugin installed on your page and being able to test out the form and take a closer look would help us move forward here. We look forward to hearing back and helping out!

    Warm Regards,

    Pearl

    Pearl,
    thanks for your prompt reply.
I’m using the Gantry 5 Hydrogen theme. I’ve already uninstalled the plugin, so I can’t give you an example. But considering this forum, translations seem to be an usual issue. See, for example, these topics:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/translation-field/

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/language-subscription-problems/

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/plugin-uses-wrong-language/

For me, even the plugin itself was not translated (my language is brazilian portuguese), but front end would definitely be the most important (as, I guess, for many people). And from the topics above, you can see that I need to dig the plugin code to achieve that. There would be nothing wrong with that – if it was documented, instead of buried in a topic.
    .
As for the success message, again, considering this forum, it seems to be another usual issue. Even if it shows up at the top of the page, it’s hard to imagine it will be the most desirable result for most people. Being able to redirect it to a custom page should be, I believe, a very basic feature.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to reply. I’ll now try to make it work with the embedded form.

    Hey @dubeux,

Thanks for such a thorough response. You’re totally correct, we do get asked about translations fairly frequently and solutions are provided in most of those linked threads. But I understand that these solutions do, in fact, require code tweaks as you pointed out and I do think the plugin description could be updated to include that information to make it easier to locate. You make a good point there, and I’ll be happy to pass this feedback along internally to see if we can’t get that updated.

That being said, while it isn’t possible to set up a custom thank you page redirect with this plugin currently, it would be possible to do that with the MailChimp embed form code you mentioned, if you’d like to try that for now. I found this MailChimp knowledge base article on the subject if you haven’t checked that out already: https://kb.mailchimp.com/lists/signup-forms/design-and-host-your-own-thank-you-pages

Thanks again for the follow up and feedback!

Yep, I had seen that article – will try to do it as soon as I can.
Thanks, kind of you to dig it for me.
