I carried out this routine update. Attempts to update other plugins failed with critical messages. Now I can’t access WordPress at all, receiving message “There has been a critical error on this website.” The website itself appears to functioning normally.

I received an email as follows:

WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Really Simple SSL.

First, visit your website (https://treadsoftly.net/) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught (https://treadsoftly.net/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php) and check for any visible issues.

Please contact your host for assistance with investigating this issue further.

When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 6.4.3
Active theme: Twenty Twenty-One (version 1.7)
Current plugin: Really Simple SSL (version 7.2.3)
    PHP version 8.1.27

    Error Details
    =============
An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 45 of the file /home/jgcm0j7txjpi/public_html/wp-content/plugins/really-simple-ssl/security/wordpress/vulnerabilities/class-rsssl-folder-name.php. Sorry but this doesn’t work. I get the error message copied in my last note. Maybe it’s the high number of files?

Is there any downside if I delete the plugin?

    Hi @treadsoftly,

If you reach out to us via support(at)really-simple-ssl.com and attach a description & some screenshots of what you’re currently seeing, I will be able to tailor my recommendations based on this. I suspect this will be the easiest way.

    Kind regards, Jarno

I’ve taken screenshots but this wordpress tool is rejecting the “Copy Link” url with error message “no alt attribute”. I could send then to an email address.

I’m sorry but I’m running out of time and do need to update my websites which this plugin has disabled. Can I delete the plugin without side effects other than temporary loss of https?

    Hi @treadsoftly,

You could indeed mail us at the provided address (support(at)really-simple-ssl.com) for a closer look, or instead try deleting the current version of the plugin & re-installing the adjusted plugin version as previously attached.

    Kind regards, Jarno
