reCAPTCHA V2 option not working

  • The [recaptcha] integration is broken for at least 10 of my websites. Hence Spam submissions are back

  • You can no longer use Recaptcha V2 with Contact Form 7. You can only use V3. This requires new keys from Google. V3 works in a very different manner and does not require the [recaptcha] tag. Be aware that if you enable V3 you will get the Google Recaptcha logo on every page of your website and it may well conflict with your page elements. You have to write some CSS to get rid of that and if you do, Google requires you to put a notice somewhere prominent that you’re using their Recaptcha.

    This change was a decision by the Contact Form 7 author.

    While it sounds like CF7 has no plans to go back to reCaptcha v2 there’s a list of plugins that bring back the old [recaptcha] tag such as the wpcf7 recaptcha plugin. It sounds like that in the long run version 3 is probably the best option to prevent spam there’s still plugins out there that extend CF7 to support version 2.
