receipt_id tag not working in email

Glad you reached out. I’ll need just a little clarification here.

Did you code your own email tag when you made the {receipt_id}, or did you just type that in? In the email settings you can scroll down to see a list of available email tags, but {receipt_id} isn’t an email tag GiveWP offers (I can make you a feature request for that, though!). If you can send along some details and a screenshot of the exact id you are looking to include, I can get that feature request ready. I just need to be very clear about the details.

If you custom-coded a tag, I’m not able to provide support for that, only for the code GiveWP creates and distributes. A feature request for an additional email tag will be your best bet here.

Keep me posted on the details, if I’ve misunderstood anything let me know and send along some clarifying details and I’ll be happy to give it another look.

I just tried to use the {receipt_id} tag as it’s shown at this page of the givewp website: https://givewp.com/documentation/core/settings/emails/the-donation-receipt-email/

To me it’s an important info to share with donors, so if it’s not possible now (even if the example shows its usage) yes it would be a feature request.

Thanks for sending along that context, I see exactly the tag you mean, that was very helpful!

I ran a few tests using the {receipt_id} email tag in the emailed donation receipts, and it populated in for me. I’d like to get a look at your system information to rule out a possible conflict. You can send this by navigating to Donations > Tools > System Info (tab) and clicking the button to “Get System Report” and copy/paste that into your reply here.

I’d also like a look at how you have it implemented. When I added that tag, I copy/pasted it into the body of my email template (I didn’t use HTML). If you could send along a screenshot or two showing me your email body, that might help give me some clues as well.

Thanks for sending along that information. I’ve been testing, and no matter what I do, I can’t replicate an issue with that email tag.

Are you experiencing issues with all the email tags, or just this one in particular?

I’m happy to keep troubleshooting, but I can’t solve an issue that I can’t see, I’m relatively stuck.

Keep me posted, if we can get more information or some traction I’m happy to keep digging.

@stephanieliy I can’t upload screenshot here, so I can’t show you what I am doing. Is there an email address where I could send the screenshots?

The other tags (the ones already included in the example text in GiveWP configuration) are working well.

You could send along screenshots using a tool like https://imgur.com/upload if you’d like, and that should help give me a better picture of things.

@stephanieliy here are the screenshots, I simply added the tag to the text already provided in the configuration of GiveWP. Once I copied, than I wrote it myself, I keep on double check it but i can’t see anything wrong.

As I told you, and as you can see, other tags are populated correctly. I am still in the GiveWP test environment. Thank you.

Thanks for sending along those images. I’ve run another series of tests, but I just can’t replicate the issue you are seeing. In all my testing, the {receipt_id} tag populates a number. I’ve run this both through my own test site and several sandboxes, and that tag continues to function as expected: https://imgur.com/UO5R7fx

The Payment ID functions in a similar way, providing an id number for donors, although I know you were looking for something more detailed.

The issue has to be replicable in order for me to troubleshoot it, without that, I’m relatively stuck. Because I can’t move forward at the moment, I’ll need to mark this as resolved. If you come across additional information that might help, you are always welcome to create a new ticket or to respond to this ticket and I’ll hop right back in.

@stephanieliy many thanks for your time and testing. I don’t know what to say. Now I copied from your post the tag and it still doesn’t work. Receipt data should be available as the receipt link is.

I don’t have any detail to add, it just doesn’t work, plain text or HTML, it’s the same.

I will come back if I see something new and useful.
