• I’ve been receiving spam via the forms set up using fast secure contact form plugin.
I use CAPTCHA and have enabled honeypot spambot.
I’m iffy with Askismet based on reviews and the fact that I have to pay for it (it’s a business site.)
I have removed all the forms and replaced them with new ones.
I have renamed the webpages that were targeted.

Everything is good now except for the form I have in the right sidebar on the home page. I can’t rename that page and it is using the same form on the right sidebar that the other pages are using.
I have since removed the form on the home page just for a short term fix.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hi The Bean, when you say you are trying to change the name of the form in the sidebar, is your form displayed on the sidebar or do you have a link to the form in the sidebar?

    Can you share your URL?

    No

I have removed the form from the right side bar
    I created a new form
I placed the new form in the right sidebar ([si-contact-form form=’6′].)

I did the same with the form that was on the contact page.
(removed the old form, created a (2nd) new form and placed the new form on the contact page.

I renamed the webpages that were getting hit with the spam.

All that looks ok except for the home page. I’m still getting spam from just that 1 page.

To keep that from happening, I temporarily removed the form from the home page until I can come up with plan B since I can’t rename that page like I did the others.

All the other pages have the (new) form in the right sidebar.

If your contact form is in your sidebar then you cannot change the URL name because that is your Site URL unless you wanted to change your domain name. Have you set up any security plugins?

    (@the-bean)

I just changed the page name

    e.g.
    https://www.coloradocreativeconcrete.com/old-page-name/ to
    https://www.coloradocreativeconcrete.com/new-page-name/

No problems there. There’s no reason to change the domain name.

The only thing I changed in the side bar is the form
    From [si-contact-form form=’2′] to [si-contact-form form=’6′]

That TOO is just fine throughout the site.

I’m just getting spam coming from [si-contact-form form=’6′] which is in the sidebar but the spam is only coming from the home page.

The spam has STOPPED coming from other webpages.

No other security plugins except for honeypot.

The only spam blocking plugins I found attempted to stop spam coming from comments.

Comments are not allowed on this site.

Hi….I have the same issue with spam coming from the same domain name source. I have Akismet set up on my form as well as having honeypot spam trap enabled. How can I block the offensive spam domain?

By the way, my form is also on my homepage.

@the Bean and @kermitt check the following URL.

I would strongly suggest that you install a security plugin if you don’t already have one. I recommend All In One WP Security & Firewall.

    (@the-bean)

    I’m back….

    To recap:
Several pages in particular have been the target of spam by way of a FORM (not a link) I have in the right sidebar (comments are not an option on the site.)

I’ve created new forms (one form is on the contact page, one form is in the sidebar of all the pages.)

I’ve renamed the webpage url on those pages targeted for spam
    (e.g. renamed https://coloradocreativeconcrete.com/decorative-concrete-entryway/ to
    https://coloradocreativeconcrete.com/decorative-concrete-entry/)

I obviously could not rename the home page which also was targeted with spam (which was unnerving)

I’ve enabled both honeypot and captcha.

Since doing the above, things have quieted for a while until yesterday when I received spam from
https://coloradocreativeconcrete.com/decorative-concrete-entry/ (one of the webpages originally targeted and I renamed.)

I’m stuck here. I reviewed the recommendation above (All In One WP Security & Firewall) and I’m not convinced that will stop the issue with spam from FORMS (comments for sure and login, account, file and firewall) but…

    Any additional help?

@the Bean sorry to hear you have so much problems with spam. The plugin (All In One WP Security & Firewall) I suggested above will help with spam. Let me explain how, the security plugin does not control the spam coming through your contact form as you mentioned above however the plugin can Ban IPs or User Agents. That would definitely help combat your spam and block them from accessing your site.

    Regards
