I recently added Apache (via .htaccess) rules to restrict access by IP address to my login and admin pages (wp-login.php and wp-admin/). I have tested the rules and they are correctly blocking outside access to my login page. However, I’m still receiving “User locked out from signing in” emails from the Wordfence plugin (free version) installed on my WordPress blog. I’m using version 4.9.8 of WordPress and version 7.1.18 of Wordfence (free version).

Does anyone know why I might be still getting these emails?

  • Hi @billb101,

Can you take a look at Wordfence -> Tools -> Live Traffic to see if they are getting blocked as a result of login failure? I think it’s possible that they’re getting locked out from signing in for a different reason. (In other words, they didn’t access wp-login.php or wp-admin/ to get blocked)

    Hi again!

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’ve gone ahead and marked this thread as resolved. If you’re still having issues with Wordfence, please feel free to open another thread!

I have a similar issue in logging in to my wp admin page.
I carried out the instructions twice and got the following
    “Your request was received
We received a request to email “xxxxxx.com” instructions to unlock their access. If that is the email address of a site administrator or someone on the Wordfence alert list, they have been emailed instructions on how to regain access to this system. The instructions we sent will expire 30 minutes from now.”

However, I never received the email instructions to my nominated email address.I believe wordfence brute force is causing this.
    You are temporarily locked out
You have been temporarily locked out of this system. This means that you will not be able to log in for a while.

Return to the site home page
If you are a WordPress user with administrative privileges on this site please enter your email in the box below and click “Send”. You will then receive an email that helps you regain access.
