Recent Post on Homepage

I’m currently running WP 2.0.4 and my WP is installed in my /blog directory. On my homepage I would like the first post of WordPress to appear, when I say the first post I mean the most recent one.

The homepage isn’t a blog, it’s a website but I still want the most recent post to appear along with the the five most recent post titles (Linked to blog post).

Is there any guide that teaches you to do this?
