I haven’t found a plugin that just lists new post titles in the posts area yet.

Is there no php script to do this?

I’m trying to do the same thing. Doesn’t seem like WP_Query can do queries to other sites than the active one. My active site in this case is the main site which does not hold any blog posts at all.
I doubt that the plugin mentioned is a good solution for me since I’m counting on having thousands of users.
Are there any plans for expanding wp_query to be able to query a specific, multiple and all sites?

Not at this time.

Also, one query to run through the database to query literally thousands of blogs at once? Horribly inefficient. ??

The plugins mentioned above are used all the time – even by bigger sites.

Alternatively, you could whip up your own script to make a copy of each post in a single table & query that. (which, technically the sitewide tags does…)

Sure ?? Just edit your theme and put a widget section in the body.

(Okay it’s not super easy, but the idea remains the same. If you can add a section for widgets to your sidebar.php, you can put one in header.php, footer.php and, of course, index.php ?? — Justin Tadlock’s Theme Hybrid does that, and if you use the Hybrid Hook Widgets plugin, combined with Widget Logic plugin, you get super fine control!)

That is indeed nice, but it doesn’t work entirely. Besides, I like the ‘featured blog widget’ better and indeed, I’d love to do that in my posts area.

Well, searching a bit more, it came to my attention the WordPress MU Sitewide Tags Pages which suppose to do what originally asked.

If your sitewide tags plugin isn’t working properly,

1) check that the blogs you want to appear are public and/or

2) Non-Public Blogs is Enabled (to Include posts from blogs not indexed by search engines.)

Very occasionally I found that when nothing shows up immediately, reloading the page, clearing the cache or just waiting a bit seems to resolve it.
