Hi! I am working on a basic plugin – so far so good!

But complexity just shot up several notches with the need for a “basic” settings page.

All I’m looking for is (at this point) a couple of options (checkboxes) and a couple of text input boxes – pretty much as basic as it gets.

I have found some WP plugin starter templates online (eg code base), but so far none of them include the concept of having settings… which is a bit unfortunate as that is so common. At least the “start” of having settings would be so handy!

Phew, this really makes my plugin code quite a bit more advanced (over my head)… the move to allowing inputs/settings is a big leap I guess.

I don’t suppose you (@jdabber) or someone else would be up to providing an example of adding those input types mentioned above (text fields and checkboxes)?

Another useful page in addition to the one Jack linked to:

In particular look at the example in the Add a Field section. The field’s callback function (wporg_settings_field_callback()) outputs whatever HTML is appropriate for the field. The example is for a text field, but you can use any element that’s valid within an HTML form. Input tag attribute type="checkbox" is used for a checkbox field.

Thanks for sharing these resources! After reviewing I ended up hiring some help for this part and I’m glad I did.

I can maintain it (eg add new fields) and now working on some conditional logic for using different fields.

It’s coming along!
