    Hello Sybre,

looking for a Yoast alternative I came across your plugin. Really awesome. Congratulations!

At the the moment we’re using the pro version of Yoast, but we really consider to switch to the The SEO Framework. One thing I like about Yoast Pro is the inbuilt redirection functionality. Since this is not a feature of The SEO Framework, do you have plans for an integration or can you give a recommendation for a plugin or something?

Best regards and all the best!

    Hi Maike,

    Thanks! ??

The SEO Framework does add support for manual (301) redirects! It’s managed per page in the Post/Page SEO Settings Metabox and it’s reflected on The SEO Bar, so you know which page is being redirected :).

When redirecting, I also recommend turning on the “noindex” and “exclude from search” options. These will effectively remove the page from the sitemap and remove it from the local on-site search results.

Or was your request/question on another level? Either way, let me know if you are in need of any (more) assistance ??

Thanks and have a great day!

Thanks for the super quick response ?? This is a great feature already.

With Yoast you can – in addition – see all 404 errors from Google Webmaster Tools and redirect the old URLs to new ones within wordpress backend. This is what I was refering to.

    Thanks again

    Hi Maike,

Out of the box, WordPress handles redirects very well.
For instance, if you have a page called example.com/something/ and someone tries to go to example.com/somet, the visitor will then be redirected to the former page.

However, what you’re requesting is not supported (yet). I’m going to set up a feature request voting board on the plugin website in the near future, because I see many people asking for many different features. I’ll keep your request in mind, but it requires a new option page which shows all the found 404 links :).

I think I can make something really beautiful from it, but it will take a lot of time to create and it’s currently not on the top of my list, I hope you understand.

Thanks and have a great day! ??

    Hi Maike ??

    Anytime!

And nope, I do not (at the time). I do give out a lot of SEO tips ??

Here are a few related to the use of The SEO Framework:
    1. Robots
Do not touch the Robots Meta Settings unless you truly know what they mean! Messing these up might destroy your site’s ranking. This holds true to the per-page and global robots settings.

    2. Over-optimization
Do not try to get all-green SEO Bar settings after pages have been well established, as long as it’s not red, you’re doing well!
Because by changing the page’s meta you tend to change titles and descriptions which have already been registered by Google and Yahoo/Bing, this will reset (or lower) the page’s ranking temporarily and then has to be rebuilt.
Updating it to all-green might also be a sign of over-optimization, although unlikely. Making it all green right when you post it (or within a few days after its initial posting) should be a-OK!

    3. Want more tips?
The SEO Framework delivers tips with each update! All (prior) tips are included within The SEO Framework plugin folder in the seotips map.

    Hi,
Is there an update on 301 redirect functionality?
When an editor deletes a page/post, how do they redirect the page using this plugin?
    Thanks,
    Josh

    Hi Josh,

The editor shouldn’t delete that page/post, they should simply fill in the “redirect” field with the URL of the new page. To also remove it from the sitemap they should check the “noindex” checkbox as well.

When this happens, it’s notified through the SEO Bar, when enabled.

If you have any more questions: please open a new topic. Because we’re now spamming woo-do’s email inbox ??

An expression manager is planned, through the .htaccess file:

    Cheers!

    Hi Sybre,
    Thanks for your quick reply!
Are you saying we should add the redirect in the Custom 301 Redirect URL field before we delete the page(s)?
What’s the best way to add a 301 redirect after a page has been deleted?

    Hi Josh,

You should add the redirect URL and not delete the page.
The page is then a placeholder for the redirect, the redirect is called for very early.

If it has been deleted, simply create a blank page with the old URL and add the redirect URL in the SEO meta field.
I do that all the time ??

P.S. Really, you should open a new topic ??
