• Hello, just an FYI, under the ‘WP Super Cache Settings’ tab, you list ‘Recommended Links and Plugins’.
“Caching is only one part of making a website faster. Here are some other plugins that will help:

Use Google Libraries allows you to load some commonly used Javascript libraries from Google webservers. Ironically, it may reduce your Yslow score.”

When I visit the plugin homepage (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/use-google-libraries/) I see this:
“This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.”

I am a little concerned that WP Super Cache is recommending a plugin that has not been updated in so long? As a new WP Super Cache, it certainly reduces my confidence level in WP Super Cache that they would list and recommend a plugin that may no longer be in use.

    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Thanks Doug. I’ll remove those links. That plugin probably works just fine but I understand if someone was concerned about using it.

    Hi Donncha,
‘probably works just fine’ does also not sound too confident ??

In my experience, using plugins that have not been tested over ‘several releases’ not only poses an increased security threat, it also can contribute to conflict issues. That surely will not help to speed up a site.

That being said, is it possible to source another plugin that could replace this one? It seems a plugin with this functionality could be a very useful.

I’m going to add a disclaimer to that list saying I don’t have any control over the software on those pages as there’s little I can do apart from remove that section completely.

Unfortunately plugins can go unmaintained when authors lose interest but unless they had specific problems that doesn’t mean they are a security risk.

I found another alternative to that plugin in https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/commonwp/ but that hasn’t been updated in some time either.
