This is a request for advice, not for help. I purchased your LR/WP Sync and MEOW Gallery last night and have spent quite some hours learning this whole ecosystem around WordPress. Now I wonder how important the choice of Theme to start with is?
After having downloaded and spent time understanding a few themes for photographers, I get the impression that selecting a good theme is important to get started “on the right foot”, right? I’m considering one called FOTO_GRAPHY. Is that a good choice? Your website says you will soon come out with your own themes, but in the mean time?

    Hi,

Indeed, the theme is really important as it is the base of your website. If you plan to use the Meow Gallery, a big part of your website will basically be covered by it, visually speaking.

So what I would focus on is:
    – a light theme, with no page builder required or included, no gallery system or anything heavy
    – all or most of the options should be in the Customizer (as this is part of the WordPress system), and nowhere else (forget the old themes which add many menus everywhere in your admin, and force you to install 3+ plugins)
    – a theme which has a general layout that you like, the header and the menu(s) in particular
    – responsive, of course ??
    – Gutenberg ready, everyone should get used to the new default editor of WordPress now (as it’s an advantage, especially in the long run)
    – released at least for the first time after 2017, but preferably in 2018

I am not an expert of themes, in fact, I am using Divi (offbeatjapan.org) and now our own themes (as you can see on meowapps.com and jordymeow.com). I have also made an old theme by myself that I still use (haikyo.org). But I really believe that simple is best, and the best theme is often the lightest one, with the minimum of tooling.

You could also try a few free basic themes, including the WordPress’ ones, and try to customize them the best you can, you might be able to make them your own while being sure that they are well coded and light.

Thanks for a detailed and instructive answer!
About “our own themes”. meowapps.com/themes/ still only has the text “They are coming soon! We plan to unveil our themes with WordPress 5.0.” So, have you published any Themes?
I checked out Divi. That seems like the opposite of using standard WP functionality. They even have their own page builder. Is this really light themes using standard WP functionality?

Last question: How do I see that a theme is “a WordPress’ one”? Is FotoGraphy that? The search in the admin seems like a mixture of WordPress themes and external commercial one, right?
