• I have a wordpress site hosted on a GoDaddy domain and GoDaddy managed WordPress account. My payment failed as my card expired, so the site went down. I’ve now updated the card details and made payment for the managed wordpress site again, but GoDaddy are trying to charge me $150 to recover the site.

Is there another way to get the site back (for free or less) through wordpress? I am unable to build it again – its for a friend (so and I’m not a developer, i did it as a favour and it took me ages previously!

    Thanks
    Jo

  • Do you have a backup of the website database ? This database contains all of the website text and settings.

Do you have backups of copies of all the images that were uploaded to the site, these images are not included in the database.
Similarly for any child theme (or theme) customizations ?

From the database you will also be able to identify the theme and plugins that you used. The database will be able to identify which images were used in which content.

    Hi Ross,

No I don’t think so…. I have the images but I don’t have database or did a back up, that i’m aware of. I’m abit of a novice to this :-/

Does that mean that everything is lost?

    Thanks
    Jo

I am afraid that you are either in for a good deal of work recreating your website text as best you recall it. OR in this case godaddy wins and your friend is out of pocket $150.

    OK, thanks…

My friend decided to pay this, I feel very guilty. How do I di a back up so that it doesn’t happen again?
