I said: “somethimes the exec does it properly, after 10 minutes broke down again.”

Their reaction: “Yeah on a particular part of our platform the shell_exec was on for some reason, what is incorrect, thats why it maybe sometimes does exec. I’m turning that off now.”

So it IS the exec function. Thats for sure.
Going to seek for a simple solution, hope i can find it.

I have used the php imagemagick library in the past, but it doesn’t have all the functionality as the complete tool. But it may work for this application. You are the first person that has had an issue with the exec not working, unless others have had the problem and just gave up. I will look into the php library as an option. I will also add a note in the documentation about exec needing to be turned-on. I am sorry that you had to go through all the trouble. Hopefully we can come up with a solution for you.
