• Hey everyone,

I have a clients current site, that is a huge cluster, over 30 plugins, 800+ posts and pages etc.

Initially I made a copy and transferred their existing and developed them a theme. My initial plan was to take the theme (new copy) and move it in to replace the old one.

I think they have made a few more posts etc to the existing site so now the copy and the current do not match in terms of content.

What would be the best way to add the new theme?

    Thanks!

  • A theme shows whatever content is in the database. Just install & activate the new theme.

The part I am confused about is that I have new plugins in addition as well as a custom menu etc. I also added a banner with custom banners etc.

SO there is some content from the new site that will not match the old as well…

esmi- what I mean to say is that the designs are different, new plugins, slideshow banner etc.

I understand if the themes where like for like in structure etc then i could just switch them out and it would be a matter of style.

I am wondering then if I add the new theme, I would have to then repeat the steps (adding the new plugings, reorganization the the widgets etc) which would mean the site is down for at least half a day?

You would have to add and & re-organize your widgets. Whether you’d need to do any extra work for the plugins depends upon the individual plugin.
