    Hi there,

Today I was testing this plugin. I’m using it for 2 reasons:
    1. 75% of my content is old and needs to be redirected to new stuff
    2. the posts need to get URL’s without the date in it.

    So I did 2 things:
    1. I changed the permalinks in WordPress settings.
    2. I added /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ as source URL and /%postname%/ as the target URL.

I tested it and 3 different things happened:
    1. When I go to the homepage and click on ‘Blogs’ in the menu and than I click on a title, it works like charm: the new URL is given.
    2. But when I copy an old URL in the address bar of my browser: nothing happens.
    3. Not the specific post is being displayed, but the blog overview page BUT with the layout being incomplete… ??? (So this gives 2 extra errors, so to speak.)

The test URL (a real blog) is: https://devolle200.nl/2022/08/05/het-leven-gaat-niet-over-rozen-het-gaat-ook-over-hun-doornen/

I deleted the codes strings mentioned in the snippets under [2], refreshed the browser and… nothing happened.

I am working on a Macbook in Safari when I’m logged into my website. The testing was done in both Safari and Chrome, both normal and Incognito.

How can I solve this? All URLs with dates in them, should be postname only.

I’m looking forward to your answer.

When you change the permalink settings in Settings -> Permalinks WordPress should redirect automatically to the new URL structure. I’m not sure why it’s not working for you ??

301 Redirects does not support those permalink tags like /%postname%/ so you can’t use them to create redirect rules. In the PRO version you can use a regex to redirect those URLs, but this forum is only for the free version so if you have questions about that please contact us through the website.

    Hi!

It is the free plugin indeed. The permalinks changed and are working, like I described, when clicking through the website.

But the 301 redirect from the copy/pasty method doesn’t work.

And even stranger: the link given above opens, with the OLD permalink structure AND saying ‘Page not found’ (‘Pagina niet gevonden’ – in Dutch) although it opens and was found…???

Any ideas on how to fix that?

Also: URLs without a date (pages instead of posts, in this scenario) don’t get forwarded at all. Both in Chrome and Safari…

I’ll try another plugin. Unfortunately. I selected this specific one for a reason, I’m sorry it doesn’t work.

Btw: https://www.wpexplorer.com/change-permalinks-wordpress/ gave me the idea about the permalink changes with the code strings. It worked for them apparently.

Sorry, we try to make it as compatible as possible with everything but there are edge cases where things don’t go out as planned ??

It’s good you found something that works for you ??

Well… I didn’t find it yet. The other plugin you guys made, also doesn’t work properly. I deactivated my cache plugin and waited about 30 minutes to refresh everything. The requested page shows the 404 error page, but not the URL I entered under ‘target url’ in the plugin :-\

It’s such a shame, because I’m looking for a 301 plugin that supports csv import. I’m glad I tested it first with 1 URL.

Is it possible to log into my website and have a look?
