Hi, love the plugin (thanks!). My nonprofit client occasionally wishes use their calendar to promote an outside event, such as one hosted by a sister chapter. Also, they now have a standing event that they are promoting via a single short URL, which they will continuously update over time.

So far, we’re just creating stub event listings and putting “Click Here for the Event Details” in the body. Kinda ugly and requires an extra click to get to the real event page, wherever it may be.

A more elegant solution would be an immediate redirect to some outside event URL. That way, the events show up on the calendar, but it is not necessary to duplicate info that already exists elsewhere (beyond date and time, and a sentence summary for the calendar’s hover popups).

Possible? (Thanks in advance for the help.)

    Hi Brian,

This might well be possible, but it would require some customization of our plugin. As outlined in our forum guidelines, we aren’t able to help with these kinds of customizations. But we do have some handy resources that might be helpful for you:

? Themer’s Guide – provides an overview of how to customize the plugin’s frontend appearance.
? Tutorials – useful tips and tricks for changing how the plugin looks and behaves.
? Technical Docs – provides an overview of the classes and functions in each plugin

Good luck, and thanks for using The Events Calendar!

    Brian,

I’m having the exact same concern and having been researching with no resolve in sight. It SEEMS like such a simple thing to be able to do. All we want to do is have a WordPress calendar that links to the URL of a corresponding Flip Catalog.

Don’t mean to “step in” and heist your post request.

    Any ideas?

Thanks, Leah… and understood — free is free, and my nonprofit client is grateful for the fantastic plugin.

Kathy, it turns out there might be a simple solution: the plugin Quick Page/Post Redirect includes an option to work with custom posts. Just turned it on in a test instance and it looks like a winner.

Haven’t tested very thoroughly yet, and I’m always a bit hesitant to add more and more plugins… but this might do it for us, for now.

When they need to use an outside page, I’ll be advising my client’s event creators to 1) create a shell event that has the minimum: title, date(s), and the barest of description text (so the calendar popup or list views can function); and 2) set the redirect options to Active, add the URL, and set to 301 Permanent.

The good folks at The Tribe might consider integrating something similar in a future release (perhaps as a paid plugin), but that’s their call.

Thanks for sharing Brian! I hope that third-party plugin works out for you. If you would like us to consider this feature for a future release, we’d love to have you add it to our UserVoice forum. That will help get it in a future build, and allows you to stay updated on our progress.

    Cheers,
    Leah
