Redirect Timeline Stories to Posts
-
How do I link to my own post from a timeline (not a story)? Do I just redirect the story URL to my own post URL?
-
To clarify, I don’t want the link to open in a new tab. I want it to open like normal in the same tab/window.
Turn blog post into Timeline is a Pro version feature.
But here I suggest you some steps if you just want to use free version.
1. Submit your stories with content one by one via Timeline Stories post-type.
2. Add your blog post link inside story content section as read more.
3. Show your timeline on a page by selecting story content = full inside your shortcode.
Now your timeline will show full content with a link to your blog post from content description section.
Hope it will help you or you need to use PRO version for this functionality.
Hi Satinder,
Thanks for your reply. But this is a confusing answer. I’m willing to buy the Pro Version. My questions are:
1. In the pro version, can I create an internal link to another post? Does it always open custom links in new tabs?
2. I would need to convert my blog post into timelines. Is there a negative side to this? What is the difference between a timeline and a post?
3. Can I still use the Divi Builder with timeline posts?
4. The blog posts that I want to change into timelines are cornerstone articles. Longform pieces of content 2,500+ words. Is there any SEO problem with using timelines instead of posts?
Thanks for your support. Please answer all of this clearly, and then I will buy the full version.
Kind regards,
PeterHi Satinder,
Still waiting on a reply from this. I’ll make it simpler.
1. In the pro version can I create links to other parts of my website? Do I have to use a redirect tool for this?
2. Can I use the Divi Builder with timeline posts?
3. Is the SEO on a timeline post the same as normal?
Thanks, please respond soon. I will buy the pro version if I can confirm these things.
Kind regards,
PeterHi Peter,
Before answering to your questions first i want to clear some points:-
1. Our timeline plugin is a post-type based plugin similar like Posts >> Add New, you will submit, Timeline Stories >> Add New. Then you can show a timeline of all stories on any page using shortcode.
2. Your blog post url will be like this – yourwebsite.com/blog-post-slug/ But timeline story single page will be like this – yourwebsite.com/timeline/story-post-slug/ But you can change /timeline/ word with custom word in PRO version.
3. Inside our pro version you can also create a timeline via already published blog posts means you don’t need to publish stories just use your blog post-type inside shortcode to show timeline from already published blog posts. Example:- https://cooltimeline.com/demo/vertical-post-timeline/ this is a timeline from blog posts.
Hope above points have already provided answers to some of your questions, find others below:-
Q1. Can i connected story post-type with any other external link?
A1. In our pro version while publishing a story via Timeline Stories >> Add New, we have an option to connect it with any external link – https://docs.coolplugins.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/optional-settings.png (currently these links open in new tab but it is a small code change if you want in same tab we will change it for you.)Q2. Convert blog post into timeline stories?
A2. If you have many number of long content blog-posts then i don’t suggest you to convert blog posts into timeline stories. But you can directly create a timeline from blog-posts without adding them as timeline stories. Blog post-type is good for SEO.
or
You can do one more thing – Remain blog-posts published and then publish stories with small content-lines and connect a particular blog-post to your story – https://docs.coolplugins.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/optional-settings.png After this create timeline to stories but they will link to your blog-posts.Q3. Divi builder inside timeline post-type?
A3. Timeline post-type currently only supports standard WordPress post structure not DIVI builder.Hope I have cleared your queries….
Hi Satinder,
Thanks for your detailed response. I would like some clarification on the following:
3. Inside our pro version you can also create a timeline via already published blog posts…just use your blog post-type inside shortcode to show timeline from already published blog posts. Example:- https://cooltimeline.com/demo/vertical-post-timeline/ this is a timeline from blog posts.
But to be specific, I want to display a timeline that acts like a “start here” guide. I want to display key cornerstone articles on a timeline (there will just be about 7 big cornerstone articles that are linked to from the timeline). Is it possible to arrange the already published blog posts in a custom order? (They are not date-specific posts because they are evergreen and cornerstone content).
