    Hi,

My blog was on a WordPress subdomain e.g. username.wordpress.com but I have now moved it to self-hosted and have my own domain name.

I want to redirect people going to my old username.wordpress.com to my new domain.

    How can I do that?

    Thank you

You can use this to redirect the site to your self-hosted site:

    What’s your website name?

    Thanks,

You also need to change the name servers for your domain name – if it is registered with WordPress.COM, see:

Thanks for your replies but £11 a year is ridiculous.

A one off fee of £11 maybe, but come on…

I know WordPress need to make money but there are other ways to do so than ripping people off.

It does not cost anything to change the nameserver settings on your domain name. The redirect is totally optional – if you don’t want to pay for it, don’t. As to the price, WordPress.COM is totally separate from www.ads-software.com (here) so this isn’t the place to complain about it. www.ads-software.com (here) doesn’t charge for anything.

@wpyogi I didn’t say it did cost money to change the nameserver settings on a domain name?

How is a redirect optional? What other options are there to divert the traffic from username.wordpress.com blog?

I thought www.ads-software.com and wordpress.com were owned / run by the same people? My bad if not… Although it does mention wordpress.com on your about page.

You don’t HAVE to redirect traffic – but if you want automatic redirect, yes, it costs whatever WordPress.COM charges :). No way around that, I’m afraid. Alternatively, you could just put up a page informing people you’ve moved the site – with the new address.

No one “owns” www.ads-software.com – it’s entirely open-source and free. .COM and .ORG are somewhat related (run on the same platform, not identical however) and many people are involved in both. Differences here:

But these forums can only help with questions about the self-hosted version – so any questions about WordPress.COM, you’ll need to ask on their forums:
