Redirecting Page Links?

  • Hi there,

    I’m running the latest version of wordpress and I think before wordpress 3 I could just change the permalink of a page’s link to example.

    /wp-admin/add-post.php

    but now the permalinks don’t save the “/” so it comes up as

    wp-adminadd-post.php

    so it doesnt go to the right page. How can I get round this or solve this problem?

    I appreciate any help given, thank you!

  • Where are you trying to change this? On the post’s edit screen? Or a menu item? What?

    Ah sorry for being unclear, Im trying to edit this in the page edit screen.

    Hmmm… even if WordPress were not rewriting that (and I pretty sure it always has), I can’t imagine URLs like that working. Those forward slashes are reserved characters and have meaning to the web server itself and to the underlying file system, at least on *nix servers. What you are trying to do seems very prone to cause trouble.

    If you are trying to create links to, say, the add-post page, why are you creating a page and then trying to manipulate the permalink instead of just creating a link directly in your them template source? Or using the “Custom Links” meta box if you are trying to insert these into a menu?

    Probably because I know very very very little about wordpress ha ?? I don’t know much about it at all, me and a friend are trying our best to learn it and wanted our friends share this blog with us, so we can all post on it, so I thought it would be easy to just have a link in the nav saying “Add” or something then if theyre logged in they can add a post

    You can do that but there are much easier ways than what you are trying. What do you see if you go to wp-admin->Appearance->Menus?

    I see Custom Links, Pages, Categories.

    What you actually need to do is register those people as users give them Author or contributor roles.

    Then as long as they are logged in they will see the admin bar at the top of the page giving them access to the Add Post functionality.

    Ah crap… I hate that bar so I turn it off and never think about it. ??

    I turned off the top bar too, kind of spoils the website layout in the first place. Is there anyway I can achieve what im after?

    yes, use the custom link in the menu like apljdi suggested
