• Hello,

This is a little complicated. I am not sure if it is unique. The person who created our website using www.ads-software.com is no longer with the association. The domain name is now expired. It has taken us over a year to figure out how to get here. How can we redirect traffic to the new website that we had to create? Is there anyway we can be assisted?

If the domain expired then I’m afraid the answer is “You can’t”. With the expired domain that means it either does not exist on the Internet or it does exist but does not point to your site or any site you can control.

    Thank you,

When I or anyone does a search for our organization, it directs it to the page that no longer exists (expired domain), is there anyway to stop that from occuring?

You will need to buy the rights to the old domain for another year or so. Things will be easier if you can buy it through your present host. You (or your host’s techs) can set that domain’s nameserver entry to point it to your new site. A command in your server setup can send a 301 permanent redirect error to calling websites. Over time, some calling websites will update their links. Users will link to the old url, not see the error, but see the new url in their browser address bar. A message on your new site like “Welcome to our new site” explains why the url has changed and reassure users.

If you can’t or don’t want to buy the rights to the old domain for a bit longer, you will need to try and find which sites are using the old link to link to your organisation and ask the webmasters of those sites to update their links. Its probably worth doing but success may be patchy.
