Redirection from deleted website

I have created a new website for a friend who had originally had it hosted as a free site on WordPress.com. The site URL was https://orinocobooks.wordpress.com It is now hosted elsewhere and with the url: https://orinocobooks.co.uk After I set it up, he deleted his old wordpress.com site without me having chance to set up any redirects. As his old site had been up for a few years all internet searches are going to his deleted site which is bad news for his business since it looks as if he is out of business!

I suspect I can’t undelete the old site to set up the redirects. Am I right?

I’ve sent the new sitemap to Google consul, in the hope the spiders will work do their thing but would appreciate anyone advising if there’s anything further I can do.
