• Hi,

I’m a WordPress (and website building) novice and have taken over a WordPress website for my sports team. The original site address was https://www.manchesterhawks.co.uk, but when I logged into WordPress I was met with the “White Screen of Death”. After visiting the Manchester WordPress User Group (https://mwug.info/), run by WordPress co-founder Mike Little, an experienced user informed me that my account had been hacked and the best solution was to re-install WordPress, which he kindly help me to do. This solved the problem with accessing WordPress and being able to change content on my site. However, the site address has been changed to https://www.manchesterhawks.co.uk/wp

My question is, can I set up some kind of forwarding so that if someone types in https://www.manchesterhawks.co.uk (this is the address that comes up when the website is searched for using Google etc.), it automatically forwards them to https://www.manchester,co.uk/wp. As I said, I’m a novice WordPress user and despite several Google searches to find the answer, I’ve come up a blank!

Many thanks in advance for everyone’s help.

    Best,
    Stephen

  • My website is hosted by GoDaddy. It has a setting for this. If you are hosted in GoDaddy I could walk you through. Otherwise, you have to contact your hosting company. Let me know.

Thanks for teh reply mrcangrejero. I forgot to say who my site is hosted by. Unfortunately, it’s not on GoDaddy. It’s hosted by cPanel.

Are you sure that your host is called “cPanel”. I believe cPanel is where you create/administer your databases. I may be wrong. Try this, just in case:

Login to the web page where you purchased/obtained the domain name. There should be a link to a “My Account” or similar link. There you should be able to manage your domain, including the forwarding address, if needed. Its just a matter of following the prompts. Once you set the forwarding address, it could take some time before the change is active. Hope this helps.

Yes, my mistake. It was hosted by Compila, which is now part of Vidahost. I’ve logged in and found the domain management section. It doesn’t make much sense to me, but I’ll see what I can do! Thanks for all your help.

Solved it! Wasn’t able to do it using the domain management within my Vidahost account, but found a redirect option in cPanel which does the job. Thanks for your advice mrcangrejero!

Glad you could solve it. The best to you and yours.
