Redirects to site’s homepage after completing OAuth2

thanks for opening the topic @coccoinomane ! I’ll investigate if your setup could be a factor, but could you go through the following troubleshooting steps (redirection to the homepage could be associated with one of the known conflicts):

1) You have WordPress administrative role access on the website and administrative access for the Google Services (see permissions levels required in our documentation).
2) Your host and website has the REST API enabled and accept incoming POST requests from the “Site Kit by Google/1.0” user agent
3) Temporarily disable ModSecurity if enabled on your web hosting (during setup only)
4) Your website is publicly accessible (not in a local environment)
5) Temporarily deactivate any caching and security plugins (or implementations at the server level) you might have active, some are known to impact setup
6) Reset Site Kit ( Site Kit > Settings > Admin Settings > Reset Site Kit)

If the steps resolve your issue please let us know which one resolved it. If the problem remains after attempting all suggested fixes please provide the following information:
– Your web hosting provider
– Your site health information

I have updated to 1.1.0 but alas we encounter the same error.
The Oauth2 callback brings me to the sites’ homepage:

We are a web agency using a VPS on an Italian provider called ServerPlan.
We are on PHP7 on a typical LAMP stack.
WordPress REST APIs are active.

@coccoinomane Thanks for the update. The differing Site Address and WordPress address may be impacting setup. Can you confirm everything is working from another site you manage which features matching URLs?

We do have an open GitHub issue on this topic which are are currently discussing, but please check from another install if possible.

@coccoinomane we’ve improved the setup process in version 1.1.2, which should not be affected by host restrictions that were previously an issue for some users. In my testing, I was able to create a subdirectory installation of WordPress and successfully setup the plugin.

Could you reinstall to this new version, go through the setup process and let us know if the issue persists? Thanks once again.

No change for me on multiple sites using version 1.1.2.

@theframeguy Can you update to the latest version of the plugin (1.1.4) and check if the same issue persists after attempting setup from a browser incognito window? If setup fails can you share your site URL or preferably your Site Health information?

Version 1.2 behaves better but it is still problematic.
In incognito window I manage to authenticate and redirect URL is correctly on dashboard.

But if I try to connect another service from the dashboard (for ex. Google Analytics) when I complete the OAuth flow I am brought again on the homepage (not on the dashboard) with a very long callback URL in the address bar.

When I go back to the dashboard of Site Kit I get the error “Issue accessing data You need to reauthenticate your Google account” but if I reauthenticate I get again to the homepage with the long URL in the address bar.

All of this was done in incognito window.

@coccoinomane Before attempting to setup Analytics can you try temporarily deactivating the current Analytics plugin you are using, I can see existing Analytics code on your site?

@coccoinomane Just following up with you on the issues you’ve been encountering with Site Kit setup. If the issue remains with the Analytics module setup can you check your WordPress settings (Settings > General) and confirm that your WordPress Address (URL) either matches your Site Address (URL) or contains your full Site Address (URL) in its address?
