    Hi,
I would appreciate some advice from experienced developers! ??
    I’m changing this website:
    https://www.alternativephotography.com/
I want to use a different theme (currently using out of date sandbox).
I would like to have one that is responsive and also change the layout to only have one sidebar.

Now, not to disrupt the existing users, how do i go about this?

Do I do a separate installation somehow, installing wordpress again on the same server and then work on the theme, css and layout until everything is done, and then transfer the content and redirect the url?
I’m not a programmer (as you can probably tell), so please advice what would be a good working order / process…
    Greatly appreicated. ??

  • Hi,

How I would go about it is to backup using a plugin like updraft then create the new site locally or on another install then use updaft to move it when you’ve finished and do that at a time when your traffic is at it’s lowest.

    Hi,
Thanks, that is a good suggestion. I have not used Updraft before.
Do I just back up posts and pages and comments and move them back? Is that what you mean?
I guess I add plugins and php modifications to pages directly on the new installation. ??
