Reduce Width of About Page

I’m also wondering how to get rid of the smiley that appears at the end of the post (without removing the text). I’m looking for a text smiley, not an emoticon. ??

This is the coding I have for the about page that doesn’t seem to be working:

Wow, sorry. I just answered my own CSS problem. Wrong page ID number. I’m still looking for an answer to the smiley question though. ??

Under Settings > Writing, uncheck the box that says “Convert emoticons like ?? and ?? to graphics on display.”

Hmm – that’s quite odd! I see it on my test site running WordPress 4.4.2. I deactivated Jetpack just to make sure it wasn’t coming from there and I still get the option:

Strange indeed, looks like you’re missing the entire Formatting section on that page.

I did some further digging and it looks like that option was removed in a recent WP core update (4.3) for new installs.

Or someone in the thread I linked above had this suggestion:

Simply log into your dashboard, then navigate to /wp-admin/options.php

You will see ALL of your WP options listed there. Search for the “use_smilies” setting. You’ll see it is set at “1”. Change the “1” to a “0” (zero), then hit the “save settings” button at the bottom of the page.
