• I’ve noticed that whenever I use an HTML list in Astra Theme, either an unordered or ordered list (UL or OL), there is a great deal of padding after the end of the list element — almost like an additional blank paragraph. This takes up a lot of space, and it’s sometimes confusing. (Sometimes, list are followed by explanatory text, and having that text be so far removed from the list makes it harder for a reader to know they go together.)

How can I adjust the space after a list with Additional CSS?

    Thanks!

  • Hi @ate-up-with-motor, sorry for the delay.

I saw lists inside the main content and also on the Sidebar. Which one were you referring to? Please share a screenshot pointing to the list to help us understand your query better.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

I’m talking about spacing of OL or UL elements within the body of a post. For example, if you look in this Your California Privacy Rights page on that site, you’ll notice that there’s a lot of space after each OL element (numbered list).

    Hi @ate-up-with-motor,

I inspect the page and noticed there is an empty <p></p> tag below the <li></li>. Refer to this screenshot, please. Please remove the empty paragraph and that space should disappear.

    I hope it helps.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

That’s very, very strange — I always edit pages offline (in Notepad++), in HTML, and there are no empty <p></p> tags in the HTML, which means that the WordPress editor is adding them for unknown reasons.

I took another look at this and I see what you mean about there being blank <p></p> tags and/or <br> tags on those pages on the front end, after the closing </ul> or </ol> of a list.

However, the extra paragraph tags or breaks are NOT visible in the Classic Editor at all, either when viewing as Text or HTML. Therefore, I can’t remove or change them at all; those extra tags don’t appear to be part of the post content for those pages.

    Hi @ate-up-with-motor,

Could you please check this with a default Twenty theme series and see if the empty <p></p> still exists when you check the source code?

Since your site is a live site, you might want to do it on a staging site environment.

Please let us know how you go.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

@bsfherman — No, in Twenty Twenty-Two, there are no blank <p></p> or extra <hr> tags.

    Hi @ate-up-with-motor,

Would you please try with other Twenty theme series, like 2020, 2019, etc? If there’s no blank <p></p> tag on these themes, please consider opening a ticket through our Support Portal, so we can closely look at this.

If you end up opening a ticket, you can just mention this thread instead of re-explaining your query.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

I only have the one default theme assigned — I don’t use it except for troubleshooting.

You might consider doing it on a staging site as I mentioned above.

Also, without you opening a ticket thru our Support Portal, I am afraid that I cannot help you further.

Or let’s see if someone has any thought about this.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??

@bsfherman I can’t see that there’s anything I could tell your Support Portal about the issue than I already have here.

    @ate-up-with-motor, sorry for the delay.

What I meant by asking you to open a ticket through our Support Portal so we can have a look closer at this, as anything you share on our Support Portal is totally safe.

    Kind regards,
    Herman ??
