When I use the modern footnotes inside a Lighweight Accordion unit that footnote/ref does not get added to the general ‘References and footnotes’ list at the bottom of my page. Ultimately, that wouldn’t be a problem for me. However, the numbering in the reference list gets out of sync (as it keeps its own +1 count I guess).

The presented numbering continues within the accordion inset. But I have noticed the keys of the mfn elements (data-mfn attribute) start at 1 inside the accordion. I suspect this causes the element doesn’t get picked up for the reference list. Or that something else in the html markup makes it impossible for the mfn to get picked up. I am not very familiar how the collection of [mfn] gets filtered out of the article content.

I can’t figure out how to solve this. Any thoughts?

PS. I like this plugin as it does exactly what I need and isn’t much of a distraction in the page.

Have resolved this myself. The behaviour had nothing to do with the modern footnotes plugin but was caused by a (wrong) way of using json for the accordion instead of the shortcode.
