Refresh existing SVG’s

    Hi, I am struggling to work out how to refresh existing SVGs that are in the media library prior to installing this plugin. I’ve tried regenerating thumbnails but that didn’t work, the thumbnails in the Media Library show grey file icons still.

    Is there a way to trigger Safe SVG to sanitise and regenerate media library previews / thumbnails?

  • I am not the author. Your theme (possibly host, but likely the theme) is messing with you. (I am not a nice person, though you seem nice.)

    This plugin is boolean. It is awesome, else there is something terrible about a situation.

    Hi @drawcard,

    As hendridm has said you only need to install and activate the plugin in order for it to take effect. If you’ve done this and your SVGs are still showing as grey file icons then I’m going to guess that the host, theme or another plugin are changing things to do with the media library.

    If you have any media library plugins installed, you could try disabling them one by one and see if that solves the issue. Otherwise, I’d guess it’s something in your theme, which is harder to find without scouring the code for issues.

    Let me know if you have any luck with the plugins and if so I’ll try and find a workaround for you!

    just to double check on this, because it is not clear to me.
    I have just to install the plugin and it will care about sanitise the existing SVG’s in the wp media library?
    is it correct or I have to do something else?

    Hey @mp1985,

    Simply installing the plugin will fix any previews etc in the admin area but there’s currently no way within Safe SVG to sanitise SVGs that have already been uploaded to the media library. I may look into adding this functionality soon but it’s not there right now.

    In all honesty, once an SVG has been uploaded to a site, any damage that is going to be done is usually already done, especially in the case of XML vulnerabilities. In the case of XSS vulnerabilities then I would suggest removing and re-uploading the images to let Safe SVG grab them and sanitise them on upload.

    Hopefully, that clears things up a bit.
