For a client website with about 250 blog posts, I need to unpublish about 225 posts. That is: set them to ‘concept’ or ‘private’.

The reason is that I need to manually check if these posts contain images for which no license has been purchased (let’s call it a copyright check). If a posts has been checked and if necessary corrected, I will republish it. This process might take a few weeks.

I don’t want to negatively impact my SEO rankings for these posts. What is the best I can do?

I can’t really advise you what is the best for SEO on your site. However, you may want to look at temporary redirects (302 or 307) instead of a permanent one (301). Search engines will still keep requesting the original URL.

Hi John, thanks for the quick reply, very much appreciated!

Is there a way of bulk creating those temporary redirects for the 225 posts I’m going to set to ‘concept’ or ‘private’? Do you have a step-by-step instruction (documentation) for that?

I’m sorry, not very familiar with those redirects… :-\
