Regenerate and media organization change

Hello,

for some reason I have a website which had the option to organize media by year/month folder switch from off to on at some point of it’s life time. So I have both media at the root of uploads folder and in year/month folder.

What will happen if I regenerate thumbnail. Will it keep path as they are? Or will it reorganize everything in folder? Can I have any other issues?
