Regenerate Thumbnails plugin PHP 8.1 compatibility

I just tested regenerating thumbnails via Tools->Regenerate Thumbnails (Skip, Delete) and via Media Library on 8.1 and 8.2 and didn’t notice any issues.

Have you experienced an error, or are you just checking on status?

Thank you very much for testing Regenerate Thumbnails with PHP 8.1 and PHP 8.2 and for the github request! It is very nice to know there are likely no issues.

Which version of Regenerate Thumbnails did you successfully test with PHP 8.1 and 8.2?

I am not (yet) experiencing any issue; I was just checking the status prior to me updating my server to PHP 8.1. My website has about 40 software components (plugins, theme, wp) that all need to work under PHP 8.1, so I am, painstakingly, looking for support references to PHP 8.1 in the various change logs and support forums for these software components, before I switch to PHP 8.1 on my test server. (Checking the feasibility of going to PHP 8.1).

I wish wp.org would have a field that shows which version of a plugin supports PHP 8.1, PHP 8.2 etc. It is very time consuming to dig through all the change logs and support forums to search for ‘PHP 8.1’, for example.

How can plugin authors be incentivized to keep their plugin compatible and tested with the latest versions of PHP (and WordPress, for that matter)?

Well, this is above my pay grade, but I hear you!

In the case of Regenerate Thumbnails, I belatedly realized there’s a mismatch between when we last tested against WordPress, and when our last release was.

Unofficially, Regenerate Thumbnails works with WordPress 6.1 and PHP 8.0.

Which is a perfect example of your frustration! The average person won’t find the information linked above.

That said, I’ve been testing a different plugin and catching different small errors with it depending on whether PHP 8.0, 8.1, or 8.2 is active, so it would definitely be useful to know whether plugin X works with 8.1+.

Can you edit the Version 3.1.5 section of the Change Log for this plugin, to say:

• Tested successfully with PHP 8.1
• Tested successfully with PHP 8.2

Then, people will be able to easily find this info in the plugin Development page:
