We are having a problem with our page-sitemap.xml to the point where google search console is unable to parse it correctly.

Cut to the chase. I followed the procedure listed on your site: https://yoast.com/help/sitemap-does-not-update/

This tells me to disable the sitemap feature (please update your webpage instructions to include the action ‘SAVE’ here.), then to clear my server cache, and then re-enable the sitemap (SAVE). Well this didn’t work. If it had worked I would expect all the site-maps to have a new generation date which they did not. I would also like to request that when you generate new site maps that you do store them as a .xml file to allow the developer to view it to see what may be going wrong and to ensure that the timestamp of the file reflects the date it was regenerated.

    Hello @kruddock

Thanks for reaching out regarding your sitemap. Yoast-generated XML sitemaps are created on the fly, so there’s no physical file to see. You may have a look at the developer portal to understand how the sitemaps are created.

Did you recently add, edit, or delete content and those are not reflected in the sitemap? If yes, please share sample URLs so we can take a look.

I was able to resolve the problem with my sitemap by viewing it in another browser I was able to view the page source which lead me to the problem. I was reading on your website that you only need to submit one sitemap to google search console. called page-sitemap.xml is that correct?

We recommend submitting only the sitemap index which contains all the other child sitemaps. That’s the /sitemap_index.xml/
