Register a custom post type first?

Good morning. I have hundreds of events from The Events Calendar plugin that lost their featured image during a site migration. Events are custom post types, tribe_events, which do not show up in the APT options (just posts and pages). Do I need to register The Events Calendar tribe_events as a custom post type in order to use the plugin to generate featured images for events?

I found the following on registering custom post types, is this what you would recommend? Or is there another way to make that post type available in APT?
