• I have a couple dozen sites that have been happily running on my server and collecting stats with jetpack 1.1.3, but as of yesterday they all stopped working.

Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.

    SSL connection timeout

I’ve made no changes on the server and no updates in WordPress.

There’s not indication in the logs as to what the issue might be.

I’m stumped. Anybody got any suggestions?

  • My host moved my sites to another server and now everything is functioning fine.

I talked to the support staff at inmotionhosting. They have confirmed that their firewall is not blocking any requests between my host and wordpress.com. They can ping the server, but all http/https requests are being blocked. This appears that wordpress.com is blocking requests from certain IP address. Probably a blacklist of some sort. Of course, with shared server hosting this makes it very difficult for individual websites.

Agree, it definitely seems to be a block but I’m stumped as to why. I’m on a dedicated server and some of my sites are on dedicated addresses.

No ideas why they would deliberately block any of my addresses and I can’t get anyone to respond about getting them unblocked.

Oh well, slim stats works well…

Same here. I got a notice to update my WordPress.com Stats plugin and to also update my Jetpack plug in. I got an error message stating “Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.” I checked with my host(Host Gator), and found out there is not a problem on their side of things either. They advised that wordpress stats and jetpack are probably still being worked on and to just wait it out… ugh. This is so bothersome that’s for sure.

Same here, error message : register_http_request_failed
    Host: Hostgator

Jetpack was really bogging down performance on the main admin backend page. Deactivated it and the back end is usable again.

I have been having the same exact issue with Jetpack. I was using Jetpack for over 6 months and it was working just fine. Then last week it started giving me an error every time I tried to look at my stats. So I updated Jetpack and now I get this error:
Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed. This usually means something is incorrectly configured on your web host.

I have been back and forth with GoDaddy several times trying to figure out what the issue may be. We’ve tried moving servers around, updating several items, deactivating all other plugins but I still get the same error from Jetpack. I’ve officially given up.

I tried other site stats plugins and I wasn’t really liking them. Thanks to Zoonix, I read what you wrote here about slim stats working well so I just tried it and I am definitely liking it. Really appreciate you sharing that!

I hope whatever is up with Jetpack gets resolved soon.

YAYYYY!!!! FINALLY! I logged on this morning to fast posting and editing! I’m so excited! So I figured I’d try and see if I could “Connect to wordpress.com” through the Jetpack update and it worked! Everything is updated and working! I didn’t loose any of my stat tracking! – Anyway, I figured I’d give everyone an update! ??

    OOOOOOOOOOOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!

    Indeed. confirmed.

Yep, same here. It’s working again. I guess they fixed whatever was blocking.

Oh wow, it’s working for me again too!

    Works for me now too!

Same problem with my server on “chez.com” .
    jetpack said: register_http_request_failed
    and also in french :
“Il n’y a pas de transport HTTP disponible pour mener à bien la requête demandée.”
    i think is a blacklist of the IP’s of “chez.com” on WordPress.com ?

I’m getting the exact same “register_http_request_failed” error.

So wait, did yours just start working like that?
Is it my installation of WordPress or my host that’s giving me this problem?

I am having this same problem. I am using GoDaddy for my host. I just tried to link jetpack today and got this error. How did everyone get this fixed? Magically fixes itself, should I just wait it out?
