• I’m going to state as briefly as possible how I’m thinking I’d like the payment and navigation to work on my site (not yet created). If you think of a simpler/better method, I’m all ears.

I’m going to create a photography site where a number of the photos are free and a number are for sale via digital download.

Each free image has a download link taking the user to a dedicated page, containing only the image in full resolution (reference unsplash.com for the gist of what I’m thinking). Here, the user can right click and “save as” to their computer. Simple as that. No subscription asked for or necessary.

The photos which are for sale would not have a link at all. Instead, the user is able to browse each photo in a collection via generous-sized thumbnails.

Clicking the album heading (e.g. “Purchase Business Collection”) over the collection of photos the user is interested in, redirects to a very simple Registration and Paypal/Payment page.

On the registration/payment page is a drop-down menu allowing the user to select any or all of the photo categories for purchase (say there are three). The price will automatically update in connection with the user’s choice. Buying one or two categories is the same price each; but buying all three gives a nice discount to the user.

Once the user is registered and payment is made, there’s the option to click a link returning to the home page where the user can now navigate to the category that was paid for and click the image, go to its dedicated page and “save as” just as with the free collection mentioned at the start.

Obviously something would have to occur where download availability would correspond only to what the user paid. WP-Member‘s “Protected Digital Downloads” option makes sections of a website available for download based on membership level. Does anyone who’s used WP-Member know if that function could be adapted to suit my navigation preferences listed above?

In addition, since the user subscribed and paid, provided he or she is logged in, I’d like the individual to always retain the option to re-download images previously purchased.

In execution I visualize this as being very simple, but I’m not sure what tools to use in order to make it work.

    Thank you for your suggestions,
    Tylerjon
