Registration & Comment Spam

  • How are people possibly registering as subscribers to my site when there is no option anywhere on it for them to register? I have unchecked Anyone Can Register – but somehow they are still registering. How do I stop this??

    Also, how can Akismet be blocking comment spam when I also have no place for anyone to leave comments and I have unchecked all possibilities for comments as I don’t want them on my site at all?

    I would greatly appreciate some insight and help on this. Thank you!

    My site is installed via www.ads-software.com, not WordPress.com, so the link above doesn’t answer the question.

    In wordpress, I have also unchecked all options that allow people to comment or register – and there is zero place on my website (which is still being built) for anyone to do either. I have comments disabled, and I have unchecked “Anyone Can Register”.

    I have been searching for the answer to this question so I ran across this thread. I installed a plugin called Cartpauj Register Captcha. It has a captcha and honeypot for spam bots.

    I had all the register stuff unchecked and hadn’t even finished my site build either when dozens of fake accounts started popping up.
