I set up a multisite network on my local machine using this guide:
    https://wpebooks.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2011/08/CreateAWordPressNetwork.pdf

Everything went really well, so I decided to do it to the online version of the site. This however went really bad.

After I got the second setup screen (with the code I need to copy and paste) I did as it said then clicked the ‘Log in’ button. Upon entering my admin login details I got taken to a page saying “registration has been disabled” and so can’t access the wp-admin page.

I have seen others saying similar things but theirs work if they use https://www.mypage.com rather than just mypage.com. Neither of these work for me.

The only way I have got my site up and running again is to comment out the code I had to add to wp-config.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, but be warned that I am still very new to all of this.

    Cheers.

Oh, just a quick edition. The second network setup page did say something like it recommends my changing my site url to something like mysite.com rather than https://www.mysite.com. I ignored this as I didn’t know how or what it meant and it was only a recommendation.

BEFORE you activate the network, it’s best to change your site to site.com (and remove the www part), yes.

On the Settings->General screen in a single site installation of WordPress, there are two fields named “WordPress address (URL)” and “Site address (URL)”. These are also known as the “Home” and “Site URL” settings. That’s where you change it.

Try flushig your browser cookies between logins.

It seems too late to change that now. The boxes are greyed out even though I have no reverted my wp-config file.

    Edit it in the DB.

Pain in the ass to look for it, but you can do it.

    Ok, cheers.
Is that likely to be what is causing the issues?

Maybe :/ Many people have reported that works.

    8) and I’m another! I followed the advise on the site below to convert the URLs:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL

It took a fair while, but I got it done and now have a working multisite network.

Really wish it said you MUST get rid of the www rather than it is recommended.

Anyway, thanks for the help! 8)

Yeah, problem is it doesn’t work for everyone. Hence many. ??
