    Hi All,
On registration the email received does not give a password but provides a link to password reset, which is itself broken, having three password fields instead of the expected two. Typing in the first field is blind but the second field reveals each character as it is typed.

I have deleted all wp code except wp-content, wp-config.php and .htaccess and then replaced with freshly downloaded code but to no avail.

After years of Joomla! since it was Mambo I started with WP about a week ago. This is my second install (I wrecked the first one trying to move it).

To understand the problem fully, you need to try to register at https://www.ticknalllife.co.uk/wp

  • Everything I could click without actually registering to try the password reset seems fine, but you likely already knew that.

Have you tried deactivating all plugins and switching to the Twenty Fifteen (and/or any other Twenty-Something theme) to check things? Since your theme is styling your registration and login, it is not unreasonable to think it could be the source of your trouble.

Thanks for taking the trouble to respond.

Yes, I have tried deactivating all plugins and reverting to the Twenty Fifteen theme. Unfortunately, that lost the register link. I logged in via wp-login and tried to find the default login widget without success, so I re-activated the ‘Theme My Login’ to do another registration test.

As I mentioned in my first post, I did a previous test installation on another domain and had the problem that password emails were not received. After installing the ‘Theme My Login’ plugin registration worked as expected.

Thinking there might be a problem with the php mailer, I have also tried ‘WP Mail Bank’ which allows some mail configuration. The smtp option didn’t work because Google blocked it, although the Google system alerted me to the issue and asked for confirmation that it was authorised by me. After confirming to Google, it still didn’t work but I think there may be a built-in delay in lifting the block. I shall have to try it again.

How can I reinstate the default login/register which I believe should appear in the right sidebar? That would allow me to test without the TML plugin using a Twenty-Something theme.

I re-activated the ‘Theme My Login’ to do another registration test.

I used to use TML and it worked great for me…and as I recall, TML *might* have done something that leaves a residual effect even while deactivated.

How can I reinstate the default login/register which I believe should appear in the right sidebar?

Thanks for the pointer leejosepho. It turns out that is where the problem lies. I have made alternative arrangements until TML is updated.

Thanks again for your assistance – it is much appreciated.

Three years ago I knew nothing, but now my guessing is at least improving a bit!

Glad to know you now know what needs to be done.
